MDMA is an abbreviation for the chemical 3,4-methylenedioxy-n-methylamphetamine.
Its slang name is 'ecstasy'.
Why not call it ecstasy, then?
We prefer to use the term MDMA, because the term 'ecstasy' refers to many different substances. See the section on adulterants for more.
Also, the name doesn't really the fit. The drug doesn't make you feel good or "high" in the way that, say, cocaine or heroin do. In fact, it is rumored that the original street name was "empathy", which is a much better fit, but was determined to not be as marketable.
Why do I care about MDMA?
If you are here, it's probably because you're curious about this substance an its effects on humans (maybe you, or someone you know). This site is an attempt to present some unbiased, user-level views on MDMA.
But aren't drugs bad?
Most Americans, and to a lesser extent folks around the world, have been bombarded with anti-drug propaganda their entire lives. This propaganda varies from heavily-slanted information to outright lies, and fails to even explain why our society believes there is such a strong line drawn between legal and illegal drugs. (In reality, they are not as different as we are led to believe.) More freedom of information, and especially the internet, have allow more real information to come into the hands of the people, so that they may make their own judgments about the place of perception-altering chemicals, both legal and illegal.
